File formats

Source files

The texts and supporting materials in this program have been encoded in XML, thereby making it possible to produce documents in different formats to support the needs of different users. These fall into three main categories:

  1. Html files used in the frames-based environment
These are intended to be used in the frames interface, and are not recommended to be viewed outside as they lack any supporting navigation tools.
  2. Html files for non-frames viewing
These can be accessed in two ways: 1) by selecting an option from the View dropdown menu of the frames interface; 2) by selecting a file in the non-frames version of Medfrench.
The links within these files are to files of the same non-frames type. For example, by clicking on a note number in the body of the text of, say, Lanval you will be taken to its relevant reference in the non-frames Notes file.
These files are suitable for printing.
These files are recommended for users for whom accessiblity (no frames, no use of colour, minimum use of images) is of prime importance.
  3. PDF files
These are recommended for users who would like to print out versions which have been laid out typographically. These can be accessed in two ways: 1) by selecting an option from the Print dropdown menu of the frames interface; 2) by selecting the required PDF file in the non-frames version of Medfrench.
